When life hands you lemons, make lemonade! This seems to be Josh Sundquist’s personal motto.

When bone cancer led to his leg being amputated when he was just nine years old, the Paralympian wasn’t going to allow his sudden disability to limit him – or dampen his sense of humour.

The 29-year-old US Paralympic skier – who’s also a comedian and motivational speaker – uses his missing limb to his advantage each Halloween. And the results are genius!

According to, Josh began devising his quirky Halloween costumes back in 2010, when he dressed up as the Gingerbread Man from the Shrek movies.

“I started making these costumes seven years ago to make my friends laugh at Halloween parties,” Josh told Huffington Post. “Which is still why I make them. It’s just that recently the internet has made that party much, much bigger. Which is great because I feel like I’ve been put on Earth to delight and entertain people.”

The costumes have become somewhat of a tradition, with his wife even coming up with creative ideas for her husband’s costumes. Back in 2012, it was Ashley’s idea for Josh to dress up as the leg lamp from A Christmas Story.

“I guess I’m an amputee who does funny Halloween costumes,” he quipped in the caption of one of his Instagram pictures.

“It’s not, like, something I set out to be, and certainly not the path my parents would have chosen for me. But I feel lucky to have stumbled across an idea that brings people joy.”
