Spring Lake - A 6-month-old golden retriever is breaking the internet with his adorable new braces.

Wesley is not only incredibly cute, the cuddly canine now has his very own orthopaedic braces.

His owner, Molly Moore, lives in lives in Spring Lake, Michigan and works at a vet clinic owned by her dad, Jim Moore.

Wesley had some teething issues after his owner noticed that his adult teeth were growing the wrong way.

“He was unable to close his mouth fully,” Molly told BuzzFeed News.

“He wasn’t playing with his toys and he was losing weight,” she said. “It was very worrying for me, and we needed to do something for him to be pain free and live a happy puppy life.”

Molly’s dad is a specialist in veterinary dentistry and suggested braces for little Wesley.

Jim acknowledged that the use of "dog braces" can seem like a strange procedure but the technique can really help animals with dental issues.

While some may argue that this is procedure is unnecessary for animals, Jim believes that the brace can reduce pain and help an animal develop better.

The American Veterinary Dental College describes Wesley’s condition as malocclusion.

Wesley was places under anaesthesia when Jim fitted the brace onto his teeth. While we humans have to sometimes wait years before the braces can be removed, Wesley will only have to deal with his canine brace for a few weeks.

Pictures of Wesley were posted on Facebook and have been shared more that 270 000 times.

"He’s just so cute with them on," Molly gushed. “I feel like that’s what I looked like when I got braces at 12.”
