Rome - Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi  has criticised those urging border closures in response to the terrorist attacks in Belgium, warning that the threat comes from within Europe.

"Those who today are deluding themselves shouting 'let's close the borders' don't know or don't realise the fact that very often our enemies are already inside our cities," Renzi said in a statement.

"The enemy is not only far from us, the enemy is hiding also in the heart of European cities, in the peripheries of some capitals," he said.
