A detective says a man accused in the strangulation death of a model told him that he intended to sell the woman cocaine but that she refused to pay and a fight ensued inside her suburban Philadelphia apartment.

KYW-TV says Montgomery County Detective Todd Richard made the statements on Friday at a preliminary hearing for Jonathan Harris.

The 30-year-old is also charged with robbery, theft and more in the August 22 slaying of Christina Carlin-Kraft.

Harris looked straight ahead and didn't reply as reporters peppered him with questions as he entered and left court on Friday.

Harris's attorney Charles Peruto Jr. says he won't comment.

Officials say 36-year-old Kraft took a ride-hailing service to Philadelphia and met Harris. Kraft's beaten body was found in her bloodstained Ardmore apartment bedroom after police checked on her.
