Dad arrested for the death of his five-month-old after drunk confession at her funeral

A 22-year-old father has been arrested after he allegedly got drunk at the funeral of his five-month-old daughter and then admitted he was responsible for her death.

Ferdi Jasari reportedly admitted to his mother that he beat his daughter Leonora after she woke him up by crying at their home in the Serbian capital city of Belgrade.

The little girl's mother, Milena Ibraimovic, noticed she was struggling to breathe after the incident and took her to a hospital but doctors were unable to save her and she died a few days later.

Police launched an investigation after an autopsy revealed Leonora had broken ribs and suffered multiple injuries to her internal organs.

But Jasari threw cops off by pretending he was only a neighbour.

Milena was reportedly too scared to tell the police the truth about what had really happened.

It only came out after Jasari got drunk on brandy after the funeral and told his mother, Afrodita Jasari, what had happened.

"We were living under the delusion the child had died of illness. And then, a few hours after the funeral, my son confessed to everything,” said Afrodita.

"He drank brandy, probably dying of guilt for what he’d done. I noticed something was bothering him, so I asked him what it was.

"He shook his head and said, 'Mom, I'm guilty of the death of my daughter. I have a lot of guilt and I have no place to run anymore'."

Afrodita reported her son to the police and he was immediately arrested.

He's been detained in police custody for 30 days while the investigation continues.

Afrodita added that Jasari had told her he’d beaten the child after she’d woken him up with her crying.

She suspects he may have been on drugs at the time.

"He's my son and I feel sorry for him, but I’ll never be able to forgive him."

Neighbours say Jasari, who also has a son with Milena, was often violent and claim he'd attacked a neighbour with a hammer two months before the incident.
