DISCOVERED: This could be the world's oldest cave art story

The world’s oldest narrative cave artworks, dating back nearly 44 000 years, has been discovered in Indonesia, scientists say.

The cave painting on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi seemingly depicts a hunting scene and shows the early importance of storytelling.

The 4.5-metre-long panel work found in the cave depicts human-like figures with animal characteristics hunting pigs and dwarf buffaloes.

This finding is twice as old as any previously discovered narrative scenes.
