Luxembourg - EU interior ministers are to meet on Friday for emergency talks on the terrorist attacks in Paris, says Luxembourg Interior Minister Etienne Schneider, whose country holds the EU's rotating presidency.

"Confronted with barbarism and terrorism, Europe stands united with France," says a statement from the Luxembourg authorities, adding that the meeting will "strengthen the European response."

The talks were requested by French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, according to a statement from his ministry. "Our fight in the struggle against terrorism must, more than ever be persistent and resolute," it says.

Europe must accelerate steps agreed after a terrorist attack in Paris at the start of the year, notably on an EU-wide system to gather air passenger data; a crackdown on terrorist financing; legislation on arms control; more sharing of information on suspects; and better external border controls, the French statement says.
