CCTV footage that recently emerged shows a woman’s leg appearing to be severed by the doors of a lift because she was distracted by her phone.

The Chinese woman tripped when entering a lift – in the Conch Building in Shanghai’s Zhongshan West Road – and her leg was trapped by the elevator doors closing on it.

Daily Mail reported that the woman was so busy on her phone that she didn’t notice the lift was already moving as she entered it.

Her right calf and foot remained outside the lift when it continued going up – resulting in her leg apparently being severed below the knee, according to The Sun.

The lift continued to ascend for another three storeys as the woman lay on the floor waiting for help.

In the video – which was first posted on Chinese website Iqiyi – another woman can be seen escaping the dangerous situation as she doesn’t step into the faulty lift.

From the video it appears the woman, who hasn’t been named, has had the entire lower half of her right leg completely crushed, according to Metro.

The incident apparently occurred on 21 June last year but the video has only recently been made public.

No further information has been made available by Chinese authorities and it’s unknown if the woman survived the incident.
