A 95-year-old woman had to spend a night behind bars after she’d hit her granddaughter in the face with a slipper.

Hattie Reynolds (95), from Florida in the US, had had enough of her granddaughter, Janeen Williams (46), refusing to get out of bed, reports. After the incident Janeen called the police.

The granny told them she was “tired of her [Janeen] staying in bed all day soaking up the air conditioning” – which Hattie pays for.

She told officers her granddaughter had screamed and swore at her, police say.

Janeen apparently wasn’t harmed and didn’t want to lay a charge against her gran but the old lady was arrested anyway.

Daytona Beach police chief Craig Capri told the News-Journal that he felt bad for the slipper-wielding granny but that the officers at the scene were merely doing their job.

Her arrest was carried out in terms of Florida’s domestic violence laws.

“If your wife reported that you threatened to hit her, you’d be arrested because that’s a domestic violence assault,” Capri told the News-Journal.

Hattie shows a hint of the smile in her official file photo. She spent the night in custody and was released the next day into her own care.

This is how Twitter reacted:

Looks as if Janeen will have to watch her step around her gran!
