British Newlyweds Jason (30) and Sally (26) Fox had a near-death experience while on a flight in a single-engine Cessna plane over the South Pacific island of Vanuatu, Mirror reports.

The pair were on a volcano sightseeing trip when the tiny aircraft’s engine failed and the plane began to descend. Fortunately the pilot was able to direct the aircraft to a nearby island named Erromango – but he missed the runway and they crashed into a thicket of trees, Daily Mail reports.

After the crash, Jason – a sports reporter for the Jersey Evening Post – filmed himself at the scene on his cellphone, explaining what happened during the crash.

He starts the video by saying, “So, we’ve just been in a plane crash and I’m not joking.”

He explains that they were flying back from the volcano when the Cessna had a mechanical failure at an altitude of about 1 200m.

“The engine started to splutter,” Jason says. “Then it all went silent and we just started to float and then drop and the pilot started pulling on his levers and then said, ‘Get your life jackets on.’ ”

He adds that while he and his wife sustained minor injuries – he suffered concussion from bumping his head while she’d crashed into another passenger – they’re otherwise both okay.

Still in shock, Jason is just grateful that they survived, “If we’d been 30 seconds further ahead when the engine cut out we would’ve ended up in the sea or in a cliff.”
