Wildfires are raging through the Los Angeles area, with the latest inferno having claimed the lives of two people.

According to CNN, nothing has been released regarding the nature of the injuries to the burn victims but they burned in the new hot spot known as the Lilac Fire, just north of San Diego.

So far 141 000 acres (57 060 ha) have been destroyed in the six large wildfires that have been burning in the state this week, according to California Fire Department’s Twitter account.

The 4 100-acre (1659 ha) fire is said to be moving at an "extremely rapid rate" and is burning west toward the Vista and Oceanside communities, officials told CNN .

The blaze started in Los Angeles on Wednesday morning affecting neighbourhoods, including Mandeville Canyon and Bel Air, reports Mercury News.

More than 5 000 firefighters have been dealing with the first four large wildfires, as well as a smaller one in San Bernardino, which is entirely contained, reports ABC news.

190 000 residents have been evacuated and 500 structures destroyed in the fire.  Hundreds of Los Angeles-area schools have been forced to close, reports LA Times.

Officials are said to be bracing themselves for more fires across the region due to powerful winds which could worsen existing fires.
