Incredible drone footage shows aftermath of devastating Greece wildfires

2018-07-26 16:09

Drone footage has revealed the devastating scale of huge wildfires that have ravaged a region in Greece this week, killing at least 74, injuring 187 and forcing hundreds to flee for their lives.

Greek media have described the disaster as a “national tragedy”. The country’s government hasn’t yet said how many people are still missing as a result of the fires, which broke out on Monday, AFP reports.

The footage shows once-white buildings now blackened and charred, and some reduced to nothing but piles of rubble.

Local beaches, where many people fled to after the fires broke out, look almost unrecognisable from the white sand and turquoise seas usually associated with the area, Evening Standard reports.
