A man has died after a portable toilet reportedly caught fire while he was using it.

The man was seen engulfed in flames and running from the toilet, which was also on fire in the parking lot at the M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore in the US, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Police told media that a stadium security guard noticed the flames and called emergency services.

The guard told firefighters that the man ran out of one of the toilets completely engulfed in flames.

"Immediately he collapsed on the floor. He was dead upon arrival," a Baltimore city fire department official told CBS.

The middle-aged man was burnt so badly that authorities are still working to identify his remains.

The fast-burning fire also destroyed three portable toilets next to it.

Officials are still trying to figure out what caused the fire, but police said the death will likely be ruled an accident.

Why the toilet caught fire or how the man ended up burning will form part of the investigation.
