People have come up with various ways to smuggle drugs but for a Japanese man it ended in tragedy.

CNN reports that 42-year-old Udo N died after swallowing 246 packets of cocaine on a flight from Mexico City to Tokyo. During the flight, Udo began having a seizure after it made a stopover, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing in the northern Mexican city of Hermosillo.

In a statement, the prosecutor's office for the state of Sonora said, “flight attendants noticed a person suffering convulsions and requested permission to make an emergency landing in Hermosillo, Sonora”.

Paramedics were called to help the man but he was declared deceased at 2:25am (local time) on Wednesday morning.

An autopsy discovered 246 packets of the drug in the man's stomach and intestines. Each packet measured 1cm by 2.5cm. It's suspected that one of the bags inside Udo N broke.

His official cause of death said the man died from cerebral edema (swelling of the brain) caused by a drug overdose.

After Udo’s body was removed from the plane, the flight continued its journey to Japan with 198 passengers on board.
