He has never allowed his disability to dampen his passion.

Although his job requires the full use of limbs he doesn’t have, Achmad Zulkarnain has found a way to work with what he’s been given.

“I have my own way of doing things,” the limbless photographer told AlJazeera.

“I don’t want people to see my pictures and think of who I am – I just want them to see my creativity.”

And creative he certainly is.

The 24-year-old was born without arms or legs and developed a love for taking pictures several years ago. explains that he bought himself a camera while holding down a job at an internet café and made it his mission to teach himself the tricks of his potential trade.

Today, he boasts an impressive following on Instagram and Facebook, and has made a name for himself in a highly competitive industry.

Because of his disability, Achmad has learned to use his face to change the settings on his camera.

By pushing it against his face, he’s able to change the focus and zoom and uses his mouth to switch between the ‘on’ and ‘off’ button.

To take the picture he uses the extra piece of skin on his ‘hand’ and moves around on a custom-built go-kart he designed, which his family and friends helped his build.

“Even now, there are still people who look down on me,” he admits.

“But it’s not as bad as before.”

According to, the 24-year-old, who also goes by the name Dzoel, now has his own photography business where he gives photography lessons.

“If you want to be the best, erase the thought that you are disabled. You don’t have to be perfect to be the best at what you do.”
