ICYMI: SA's hottest celebrities step out for fun and fashion at the Met

2016-02-01 09:57

We were at the J&B Met this weekend! In case you missed it, we've rounded up the hottest fashion and sexiest celebrities in under two minutes. Watch.WATCH

This sexagenarian dad-of-four has the body of a 20-year-old!

Retired lawyer Clayton Paterson (60), from Ohio in the US, was fit and active throughout his teens and his twenties.

Although, at the time, he didn't feel insecure about his naturally skinny frame, Paterson occasionally compared himself to his muscular older brother - who'd sometimes tease him.

Over the years his career and duties as a father to four children - Jacob (33), Nathaniel (32), Anne (30) and Luke (23) - made it difficult for Paterson to maintain his fitness routine.

He decided he could achieve more with his body. In December 2015 he came out as gay and has since attracted men of a wide age range thanks to his bulked-up body.

But it wasn’t until 2017, when he started taking part in physique competitions, that he discovered his passion for bodybuilding.

“I was in shape in my twenties but not like I am now and virtually everyone is in shape in their twenties - it’s not that hard,” Paterson says.

“I think it's much more striking to be this fit at 60.”

Thanks to his newly bulked-up body he's maintained his physique at 76kg and can comfortably perform activities with his children and their friends.

“I know my children’s friends are impressed with my fitness and I’d like to think I relate well to thirty-somethings.

“Honestly, I don’t feel a difference with them. Yes, I don’t party like they do, and I go to bed early, but when I ski with them or have dinner, it all seems very equal. They treat me as one of them.

'I feel amazing'

“Now, I recognise that I can’t live my life through my children, but I appreciate my relationship with them and their friends. I think being fit, youthful-thinking and active allows you to really fit in with any age group.

“Many people are surprised that a 60-year-old can be this fit. I don’t want to be conceited, but I know I've been able to maintain the body of a 20-year-old well from the neck down.

“I often get asked if I’m on steroids or what supplements I take. I do none of those and my natural testosterone level is actually above the normal range.”

Paterson competed in two US national physique shows in 2018: the NPC Masters Nationals in July 2018 (in the 50-plus age group), where he came fifth; and the NPC North American Championships (in the 60-plus age group), where he came third.

He says he now feels fitter than when he was in his teens and twenties.

“I feel amazing - healthy, strong and capable. And I can still ski with my kids, swim long distances, go mountain-biking and play my piano and bagpipes.

“At 60 I don’t feel there are any limits yet. I improved my diet and workout programme and the result is what you see today. But I like to think I have a great life/exercise balance.

“I got a coach to help me with my workouts and diet. That substantially changed my body. Now it's simply part of my lifestyle.

“I can’t imagine not going to the gym six to seven days a week. But as a retiree, it's much easier now than when I was working. The decision to bulk up really came when I finally, after so many years of thinking about it, decided to compete in physique events.”
