Mexico City - Authorities in western Mexico say they have found 19 plastic bags which presumably contain human bodies.

Prosecutors in the state of Jalisco say the bags were found in a sewage canal late Thursday in a township just east of the city of Guadalajara.

Sometimes Mexican drug cartels hack bodies up, so the total number of corpses could rise.

Firefighters joined in the effort to recuperate the bags, but they have not yet been opened.

Jalisco is home to the drug cartel of the same name.
