Miami police officer violently arrests black woman in viral video

A police officer from the Miami-Dade police department in the US has been relived from his duties after a video of him violently arresting a black woman went viral on social media.

NBC News reported that on March 5, Dyma Loving called 911 to report a man, who was identified as Frank Tumm, was waving a shotgun during an argument with her and her friend Adrianna Green.

Shortly after Dyma called the police. Police officers arrived on the scene and began talking to the two ladies. While talking with them Adrianna quickly pulled out her phone and recorded the interaction just in case the situation got out of hand, according to NBC News.

In the video, which was recorded by Adrianna, Dyma can be seen telling the police officers that she was threatened with the gun, but whilst she was giving her account a police officer can be seen grabbing and pushing her against the fence.

Soon after the incident Dyma, who is a mother-of-three, spoke to NBC News and said Miami-Dade Police Director Juan J. Perez needs to "reassess" his entire department and also alleged that Giraldo told her she needed a mental evaluation.

But according to the incident report written by Frank Tumm after the altercation, Loving was "acting belligerent and would not obey commands" as officers were trying to investigate the call, reported BET.

“As we tried to keep the parties involved separated, Ms. Loving became further upset, very irate, and uncooperative," the report stated. "Ms. Loving began to scream at us causing a scene."

The video of the incident has since then gone viral on social media and told a different story. Channel 8 News reports that, the Miami-Dade police director has called the video "deeply troubling", and released a statement and said,

"Upon becoming aware of the video posted on social media, an immediate inquiry was initiated which resulted in the involved officer being relieved of duty and of his role as a field training officer," Perez said in the statement.

"An investigation into the entire incident is currently ongoing and upon its conclusion, I will hold those that violated any of our policies and/or procedures accountable for their actions or lack thereof."

Since then a police spokesman from the Miami-Dade police station revealed to BET that Giraldo has placed on administrative duties.
