A 27-year-old woman from Sydney, Australia, was rushed to hospital after having a series of strokes on the second day of her honeymoon in New York, in the USA.

Joseph Bechara (28) was beside himself when he found his wife, Francheska, unconscious on the floor of the hotel gym after he returned from a quick smoke, Daily Mail reports.

He said it looked like she was trying to use her cellphone to call for help, Mirror writes. She was rushed to hospital.

The couple had just started their three-week honeymoon trip around the United States after their nuptials on 7 October in their native Sydney.

On the day of the incident Francheska, a primary school teacher, was put in an induced coma before three brain surgeries were performed on her in New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital.

Family members have flown in to support Joseph and Francheska and be at her side during this trying time, 9 News writes. She’s since woken up from her coma but is still unable to speak.

According to Joe Toubia, Franscheska’s brother-in-law, doctors had to temporarily remove part of her skull to ease the pressure on her brain.

“She can’t speak. They’re happy with her progress but it will be a long period – three or four months – before they know her final condition,” Joe said.

“She had no conditions that we were aware of. She was completely healthy. The doctors can’t find the issue that caused all this to happen,” he added.

Francheska showed signs of responsiveness after she followed an instruction to squeeze a nurse’s hand.

According to a GoFundMe started for Francheska to help with medical bills, the two met eight years ago at church and it was love at first sight.
