A British court has heard heart-breaking details of how a mother left her two young children alone at home so she could go on drug-and-drink binges.

Her nine-year-old daughter, who’s name hasn’t been revealed, was left to care for her toddler brother (2).

The little girl became so desperate she started leaving her mother notes, begging her not to go out and leave them by themselves, The Sun reports.

One note read: “We’ve been crying for you all night and I’m really worried.”

Another one read: “Mom, where are you? I miss you. I was crying and I’m upset. Wake me up when you’re back. Thank you, Mommy.”

The woman, who’s name hasn’t been made public, had been a “devoted mother” until her relationship with the children’s father fell apart 18 months before the offences, Metro reports.

The mother, who pleaded guilty to four charges of child neglect, was given an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to take part in a 20-day programme.

Persecutor Bashir Ahmed told the Leeds Crown Court in West Yorkshire that she first left her children locked in the house, with no means of communicating with her, in November last year.

“There was no landline in the house, no mobile phone. She wasn’t there when the children woke up.”

The girl wrote her mother notes begging her to wake her and her little brother up when she got home. When she ran out of paper she continued to write notes on the kitchen table in lipstick.

“I’ve gone upstairs to bed because I can’t keep my eyes open. Me and [her brother] love you. We miss you very much,” one note read.

“Can you wake us up when you’re back. We’ve been crying for you all night and I’m really worried.”

When the mom hadn’t returned home on 2 November, two days after she’d left, the little girl climbed out of a window with her brother and asked neighbours for help.

Police were called to the house and found it in disarray, Metro reports.

The girl told officers that “mommy went to Tesco [supermarket] on Friday night and hasn’t come home”.

After a search, police found the mother in a house about 5km from her home. She was arrested but later released. Her children were returned to her.

She left her kids alone again on 23 December to go “drinking and take drugs with her friends”, The Sun reports.

The brave little girl left another note saying she’d taken her brother to their aunt’s house. She had flea bites and both children had high temperatures when they were found by relatives. The mom was arrested again.
