Copenhagen - A Norwegian court has sentenced two men to prison for affiliation with the Islamic State group in Syria.

The Oslo city court said on Wednesday 46-year-old Norwegian citizen Hasan Ahmed and Adam Idrisovich Magomadov, a 23-year-old man with a residence permit in Norway, "had a clear and determined plan" to "contribute to ISIS's terrorist activities." Ahmed was sentenced to six years and Magomadov to 7½.

According to court documents, the men visited ISIS in Syria in August 2014. Both eventually returned to Norway but intended to go back, the court ruled. They were arrested in Oslo last year.

Ahmed's lawyers told Norwegian broadcaster NRK he would appeal his sentence while Magomadov has not yet made a decision.
