Police officers attacked with machete in Brussels

Brussels - Two police officers were attacked with a machete at a police station in Belgium, authorities have said.

The female officers were assaulted in Charleroi, south of Brussels, on Saturday afternoon by an attacker shouting in Arabic, AFP reported.

According to the local police, the man, who has not been identified, was shot by another officer at the scene and is in a serious condition in hospital.

The local police tweeted that the attacker allegedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” as he approached the officers.

The Independent reported that one of the officers was taken to hospital with severe injuries to her face, while her colleague was not seriously wounded.
