Warsaw - Polish police say they have seized cocaine worth around $27m that arrived via Belgium in a shipment of bananas from Colombia.

Warsaw police spokesperson Mariusz Mrozek said on Monday that the haul of 178kg of 90% pure cocaine was seized near Warsaw on Saturday, hidden in a truckload of bananas.

Mrozek said that the police have arrested a 40-year-old Pole who drove the truck from Belgium, where the shipment arrived by sea.

Police are looking for other people who were involved in the illegal shipment and also to determine whether the cocaine was destined for Poland or another country.
