Interconnected stairways that seemingly have no beginning or end. Shelves that stretch to the ceiling, filled with colourful covers.

It’s easy to see why Zhongshuge Bookstore in Hangzhou, China, is described as the stairway to literary heaven.

Thousands of books line the walls of the shop founded by former teacher Jin Hao and the breathtaking pictures show the wonder etched on the face of each visitor.

Zhongshuge is just one of several outlets that Hao has transformed into architectural wonders.

The impressive mirrored interior was designed by Shanghai studio XL-Muse.

"The store blends the definitions of books into every space by upholding the usual respect for books and knowledge and infuses the minds of readers with the sacred books by way of design," the architects say.

It sure does!
