A terminally ill dog with a huge tumour on its head recently met the family who’ll take care of him during his final days.

Adorable photos of Coco meeting his new family show the four-legged animal being stroked by one of his new owners, Luciano Karosas (21).

Snaps of the dog were posted online with an appeal for a loving family to care for him in his final days.

Coco has severe metastasis that most commonly develops when cancer cells break away from the main tumour and enter the bloodstream or lymphatic system. He’s been given just 40 days to live.

According to local media, Griselda Herrera rescued Coco in the city of Berazategui in Argentina and started a Twitter campaign to find an owner.

Luciano saw the images and immediately contacted Herrera to adopt Coco.

“It took me a while to come to terms with the idea that we don’t have much time together,” Luciano said.

“I even took him to a vet who works with stem-cell treatments to see what we could do. I was looking for a ray of hope, but he told me there’s nothing that can be done to extend his life.”

The young man promised to pamper Coco during his final days.

“All I want to do is give him lots of love before he leaves us,” he said.

The canine has reportedly already spent 15 days with his new family and he’s doing very well. His owners are giving him cannabis oil in hopes of slowing down the cancer.

“I love seeing him this way. I wish it wasn’t just for 40 days, but it feels as though Coco’s recovering and will be here for a while,” Luciano said.
