Bangkok - A front-page article in the International New York Times about the problems facing Thailand was left blank by the newspaper's local printers on Tuesday.

The article by correspondent Thomas Fuller touched on Thailand's military government, a stagnating economy and apprehension over succession of the much-revered monarchy.

"The article in this space was removed by our printer in Thailand," read a statement on the front page and on page six where the second part of the article would normally have appeared. "The International New York Times and its editorial staff had no role in its removal."

The local publisher for the New York Times did not return repeated calls for comment.

On September 22, the newspaper was not published in Thailand due to an article on the royal succession, which was deemed "too sensitive to print" by the publisher.

Tuesday's 1 050-word article is still accessible on the internet.
