Street artist Clet Abraham transforms road signs into amazing art, using just a few stickers.

The French "urban interventionist" applies stickers to signs around Europe to give them humorous meanings – but is also careful to respect their readability as working signs.

So far he’s struck in cities including London, Rome, Turin, Brussels and Paris.

The 52-year-old created up to 20 works in Edinburgh, Scotland, in March 2018, which went unnoticed by officials for six months.

Now the council of the city of Edinburgh has been urged to preserve the signs.

The artist takes from between two days and two years to come up with his design ideas. Designs are drawn by hand before being made into stickers using a computer.

Clet makes extra signs which, according to the BBC, sell for between £1 000 (around R 18 000) and £10 000 (R180 000) to private clients.

The Frenchman studied at Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Rennes in northwest France, and lives and works in Florence, Italy, where he has his own studio.
