A two-year-old girl was found dead in the US over the weekend after she got stuck inside a tumble dryer.

Brantley County Sheriff’s Office, in the state of Georgia, confirmed that a child died in a dryer at a trailer park, New Zealand Herald reports.

The toddler’s mother found her daughter’s lifeless body in the dryer on Sunday morning. She believes her daughter climbed inside while she had been sleeping, according to perthnow.

An autopsy found the child – whose identity has not been released – died from overheating, Mirror UK reports.

“She takes care of her girl, she goes to work,” neighbour David Williams told local media.

“She does the right thing and for something like this to happen in our neighbourhood is just awful.”

He added that the mom would never intentionally harm her daughter and this was simply an “awful tragedy”.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
