Arlington – Four friends of a teenage girl who died of a rare cancer are honouring her by wearing her prom dress to their own proms.

Catherine Malatesta's friends are taking turns this prom season wearing a deep blue, shimmery prom dress she wore last year to her junior prom at Arlington High School.

Catherine's mother, Jennifer Goodwin, calls the gesture "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Prom Dress" after "The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants," a popular series of books and movies about four teenage girls who share a magical pair of jeans.

Jillian Danton wore the dress to her prom on April 15. She said it's healing for Catherine's friends to be able to keep her with them by wearing her dress to their proms.
