Kuala Lumpur - An advertisement has been placed in local newspapers in Malaysia seeking the owners of three Boeing jets left unclaimed at the country's main airport, authorities said on Tuesday.

The Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) said that three Boeing 747-200F aircraft have been abandoned at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Monday's newspaper advertisements were placed in a bid to collect unpaid service fees and other charges, according to the statement.

"If you fail to collect the aircraft within 14 days of the date of this notice, we reserve the right to sell or otherwise dispose of the aircraft," the advertisement said.

Zainol Mohamad Isa, Malaysia Airports general manager, said his office has been unsuccessful in contacting the last known owners of the aircraft.

The MAHB statement cited civil aviation law in justifying its threats to sell the aircraft, adding that the publication of the advertisements "is a common and reasonable step in the process of debt recovery".

The planes may belong to a company that has "ceased operations and is a foreign entity", it said.
