WATCH | 20 years since Paddington railway disaster

Just before 08:10 on October 5, 1999 two trains collided almost head on near Paddington station.

The accident claimed the lives of 31 people, including the drivers of both trains involved in the crash. In addition to the fatalities a further 220 people were injured after a fireball ripped through carriages.

A total of around 600 people had been on board the two trains when they collided.
