WATCH: Amnesty International urges trials for Myanmar military over Rohingya

2018-06-27 22:26

Amnesty International has released a new report on atrocities inflicted on Myanmar's Rohingya population that names 13 top military commanders who the human rights group says should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity.

The report, released on Wednesday, is titled "We Will Destroy Everything". Amnesty says those words, spoken by a military commander, sum up the mindset of Myanmar soldiers in dealing with the Muslim Rohingya, about 700 000 of whom have fled into Bangladesh.

Amnesty says its investigative team spent nine months gathering new evidence of the brutal treatment of Rohingya. The report says the team interviewed hundreds of victims and collected new evidence of the murderous methods used to drive the Rohingya out of Myanmar.

Myanmar's government spokesman was not available for comment on Wednesday morning.
