Fremont – A news reporter for US television station, KTVU, barely missed being struck by a car during a live broadcast on the side of the streets on Tuesday in Fremont, California.

The reporter, Alex Savidge, managed to jump out of the speeding car’s way after the cameraman, Chip Vaughan, alerted him of the approaching vehicle at the last second.

The reporter and cameraman were broadcasting live from 7-Eleven parking lot when a traffic accident propelled a white sedan onto the pavement towards the reporter.

Savidge had his back turned to the road and never saw the car coming. With a clear view of the street, his cameraman had shouted for him to get out of the way, reported Los Angeles Times.

Savidge and Vaughan were covering ACE’s train derailment at the time of the crash.

The reporter later posted a video on Facebook: “Close call! Almost got hit by a car live on-air. Heart still pounding.”

KTVU later posted a clip on Facebook showing an emotional Savidge who thanked and embraced the cameraman and assured his family and wife that he was doing fine.

“We are like a family here at KTVU and we’re so glad Chip and Alex are looking out for each other,” said KTVU in the post.
