New Jersey Democrat Senator Cory Booker set social media alight after delivering an emotional speech about President Donald Trump's most recent faux pas.

Booker condemned Department of Homeland Security secretary Kirstjen Nielsen over her failure to criticise Trump’s use of the word “sh*thole” when he described Haiti and some African countries.

Trump drew widespread criticism last week after he reportedly use the expletive to describe African countries during a discussion on immigrants.

According to The Inquirer, Brooke maintains that hateful words from a US president fester and contribute to “an atmosphere that has included increased threats against minorities.”

“I am frankly seething with anger,” Brooke said at the DACA meeting which took place on 17 January.

The confrontation quickly went viral and had people even talking about the senator’s prospects as a potential candidate for president in 2020.

"What went on in the White House, what went on in the Oval Office, is profoundly disturbing to me.

“When Dick Durbin called me I had tears of rage when I heard about his experience in this meeting, and for you not to feel that hurt and that pain and to dismiss some of the questions of my colleagues . . . when tens of millions of Americas are hurting right now because of what they're worried about what happened in the White House, that's unacceptable to me!"

“Your silence and your amnesia is complicity,” Booker told Nielsen.

Nearly 29 000 people liked it when shared on CNN’s Twitter feed.
