The best way to catch an unwanted rodent in your house is a cat, right?

Well, anyone who’s watched Tom & Jerry knows that, so it makes total sense for a teenager to think his feline friend would come to his rescue and solve his rat problem.

But things don’t go exactly as planned . . .

An absolutely hilarious clip which has surfaced on YouTube shows a Brazilian teen boasting on camera about what he’s about to do to the rat in his bathroom.

“I’m going to kill the rat,” he whispers at the beginning of the video.

The boy, who’s armed with a broom, tries to scare the vermin out of its hiding place under the sink so his frisky ginger feline can help him catch the little rascal.

But the plan quickly goes sour as the sight of the rodent totally freaks out the not-quite-so-brave rat-catcher who starts screaming frantically, which in turn causes the cat to go into a panic of its own.

The brown-haired lad then runs around like a headless chicken while the tomcat appears to be running up the wall and door, after which the desperate pair run out the bathroom in a rather undignified manner.

The video has racked up more than 300 000 views on YouTube, with people left doubled over with laughter at the hilarious situation.

“I thought this was only possible in a Tom & Jerry cartoon,” one YouTube viewer says.

“I can’t stop laughing  ?  it’s a masterpiece of a comedy,” says another.
