This video of security footage taken in a dark school hallway in Ireland will most likely have even the most cynical of souls watching it twice.

Could Deerpark CBS school in Cork, Ireland, have a ghostly pupil? If so, it’s one with a foul temper . . .

Make sure to watch this video with the sound on – you don’t want to miss a moment of the creepiness.

On 1 October at 3.07 am the school’s CCTV cameras captured some deeply disturbing footage in one of the school’s first floor hallways. The camera is activated by a motion sensor.

First, a door opens and slams shut. But there doesn’t seem to be anyone there . . . Everything goes dead quiet. Then, suddenly, one of the filing cabinets is shaken back and forth. But there’s still nobody there.

A locker door is yanked open and its contents dumped on the floor – it happens super fast. The last item to be “ghost”-handled is a yellow plastic “wet floor” sign which is knocked over. It flies over with such force that one would say it had been kicked.

Aaron Wolfe, the school’s vice-principal, was the first to see the footage. He was so puzzled by it that he sent it to the headmaster, Kevin Barry.

“We couldn’t understand how this had occurred,” Wolfe wrote to news website Today in an email. “If it is a prank, it’s very well done!”

He says the school doesn’t have the resources to have doctored the video so professionally or to have used a green screen. Fishing line? Also not possible, he says.

The window next to the rattling lockers can’t open. “But anything is possible,” he adds.

Here’s one explanation

Rumours of supernatural activity at the school have circulated for some time. There have been reports of hallways going unnaturally cold and a pupil has heard disembodied crying coming from one of the bathrooms. Witnesses have also reported seeing lights in the school switched on and off at night.

It turns out the school, which was opened in 1852, was built on a site known as Green Gallows, so named because of the public hangings of criminals that took place there in the early 19th century . . . Of course, with Halloween coming up, who knows what the spirits might be up to?
