When an American man and his friends were approached by an elderly woman with a special request, they just couldn’t turn her away.

Ryan Giancola from North Carolina was at the beach with friends when he was approached by an elderly woman who asked if the men would help her make her husband’s wish come true.

She told them he was suffering from dementia and that he most likely had a year to live, FOX 13 reports.

He immediately said yes to the request and he and his friends helped the man get to the water.

“Yesterday an elderly lady came up to us at the beach and asked if we could help fulfil her husband's wish to ride a wave one last time,” Ryan wrote on Twitter

“What an amazing experience, and on my birthday none the less!”

In a video that has since gone viral, Ryan and his friends can be seen helping the old man ride a wave using a boogie board close to the shore, First Coast News reports.

The video has received over 6 million views and 17 000 retweets.
