A disturbing video showing a woman violently pushing an elderly man out of a bus in Las Vegas in the US has gone viral.

The video was released by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the New York Post reports. The department said that by releasing the video it hoped to encourage potential witnesses to come forward and speak to the police, WZTV reports.

The man, identified as Serge Fournier, initially survived the fall but died of his injuries at a local hospital a month later.

Police have identified his assailant as Cadesha Michelle Bishop (25), who now faces murder charges.

Fournier was reportedly telling Bishop to be more polite to others when she shoved him. The 74-year-old landed head first on the pavement, Mirror UK reports.

According to a police report, on 21 March the elderly man was moving up the aisle of the bus when he asked Bishop, who’d been swearing at other passengers, to be nicer to others.

The woman was arrested on Monday (13 May) and made her first court appearance yesterday (14 May). Court records show she’d pleaded guilty to two domestic violence misdemeanours in the past, People reports.

Fournier’s neighbour Trevor Taylor said the septuagenarian was a wonderful person whom he’d never forget.

"No matter what his age, she should not have done that. People need a little more patience than what they have these days," he said.

"He was an excellent neighbour. Very nice, religious person."

Fournier leaves behind a disabled wife.
