An American woman was saved by a Good Samaritan when she collapsed in a supermarket.

Now, thanks to social media, the two women have reunited.

Marianne LaPlante from New Jersey went to Aldi Supermarket to buy groceries with her 94-year-old mom on 12 October, Daily Mail reports.

After a few minutes in the store, Marianne started feeling light-headed and tried to rest her head on the trolley.

"I looked at my mother and said I don't feel good and it wasn't a dizzy feeling, it was like a something is wrong feeling," she said.

She proceeded to collapse, hit her head and bled profusely as a result, ABC 7 reports.

Luckily, Lisa Manoy, who has 15 years nursing experience, stepped in to help.

She performed CPR on Marianne and made sure the colour was restored to her face by the time an ambulance arrived.

"It's a matter of life and death and you only have minutes when somebody goes down like that,” Lisa said.

On recovery Marianne took to Facebook to thank the stranger who saved her life.

“I would like to thank the woman who resuscitated me at Aldi's yesterday afternoon,” she wrote, adding: “You may well have saved my life.”

“Also, thank you to the woman who held my 94-year-old mom and said prayers with her while waiting for the ambulance.

“You may never see this post or know my gratitude to the both of you but I will forever think of the two women who jumped into my life and made it possible for me to see a new day.

“There is still great good in this world.”

Lisa’s daughter spotted the post on Facebook and the two women exchanged telephone numbers, Metro News reports.

They now speak on the phone every day and hope to meet up soon.

Lisa has been inundated with expressions of gratitude from people who call her a hero and an angel. “But I don’t feel like that,” she said.

"She's the type of person I can be friends with. You just know a really good thing," Marianne said.
