An American woman donated her kidney to a total stranger after seeing his mother’s desperate plea.

Lashonda Pugh’s 24-year-old son, Daniel Jones of South Carolina, has Alport syndrome, a genetic condition that causes progressive kidney deterioration.

Daniel was in desperate need of a kidney transplant when his mother decided to write a message on the back windshield of her car, asking for help, Mirror UK reports.

“My son needs a kidney to live. Please help!” the message read. The desperate mom also listed her phone number and Daniel’s blood type.

Starr Gardy, who has children of her own, saw the message written on the back of Lashonda’s car and wanted to help, Sun UK reports.

“I just froze, and I felt so moved and thought: ‘What if I could help?’” she said.

“I asked my kids, ‘How would you feel if mommy donated a kidney to somebody?’”

“They were both okay with it and my husband was like, ‘Whatever you want to do is fine with me.’”

Starr and Lashonda met each other for the first time at the hospital just before the operation on 1 May.

The thankful mother said she felt like Starr was already part of the family.

“We hugged and cried and I thanked her for giving my son a second chance at life,” Lashonda said.

Daniel was equally surprised by the unbelievably kind gesture, calling it a “dream come true”.

“I can’t repay her for it, so all I could do is thank her. It’s a lot knowing that I have her organ in my body,” Daniel said, speaking to WJLA.

“We’re family now. She’s not a stranger anymore. She’s my aunt.”
