A 22-year-old American woman was severely injured after falling from a Manhattan rooftop while taking photos on Saturday.

This comes in the wake of a New York university student dying after tumbling from a campus bell tower at Fordham University as she attempted to take a selfie, The New York Post reports.

The latest victim, Reilly Hamilton, fell five stories from her apartment while taking snaps at around 8pm, police said.

“She was taking pictures, and she fell, and apparently she hit the air-conditioning unit and landed in the trash area, which is horrendous. I’m just completely shocked,” said a 24-year-old neighbour who declined to give her name.

Paramedics took Hamilton to Bellevue Hospital where she was told she’d suffered a broken pelvis, ankle and arm, the Daily Mail reports.

According to neighbours, she and her two roommates had access to the roof and loved partying.

“They actually made a lot of noise up there. We were always telling them, ‘Please keep it down, keep it down.’ They threw a lot of parties,” the 24-year-old neighbour revealed.

“The place is one nonstop party,” he added.

“It’s a bunch of recent college grads who basically transplanted their sorority up here and kept the party going.

“One [party] had been going all weekend long – just loud music, loud voices, all day and all night. I’d hear it every time I walked out of my apartment.”

According to The New York Post, several people have died this year in the US from falling while attempting to take Instagram-worthy snaps.
