Australian bee keeper, Paul Wood, was called to remove a hive of bees which contained approximately 60 000 bees that had been living in the ceiling of an Australian woman’s home for the past 10 months.

Bees reproduce during the spring time with their ideal habitat being a hollow tree, however Paul explains that should they not find a suitable space outdoors they are known for taking refuge in the cavity walls of houses or in this case the ceiling.

Speaking with BBC News Paul explains how the bees have bred up in the woman’s ceiling over the time, “In ten months they’ve built an awful lot of comb, they also sucked into that cavity 50KG of honey. They bred up the numbers to about 50-60 thousand bees.”

He removed the honeycomb along with the massive population of bees on Saturday from the woman’s house and transplanted them into what he refers to as a "free range hive" in his backyard.

Paul added that the woman was not bothered at all by the bees in her house, “She was really comfortable with the bees in her house” he says. It is only when the hive grew larger and larger in size that she thought they should probably be moved.

Paul’s video, at the woman’s home, which went viral was also featured on Sky News.
