#YouKnowMe women open up following Alabama's abortion law

2019-05-17 12:24

The Alabama Senate passed the most restrictive abortion Bill in the US on Tuesday, which places a near-total ban on the termination of pregnancy - even in cases of rape and incest, News24 previously reported.

Doctors who perform the procedure could end up in jail for 10 to 99 years.

The only time abortion would be deemed legal is if the mother's life is in danger or if the foetus has a fatal condition and can't survive.

Governor Kay Ivey signed the Bill on Wednesday, banning almost all abortions in the state.

CNN reported that the new abortion law could disproportionately affect minority and poor women who will be forced to give birth irrespective of circumstances pertaining to conception, their health, and their right to have or not have a baby. This may result in such women seeking to terminate their pregnancies in unsafe conditions as doctors may not want to risk their profession and fear imprisonment.

Many celebrities voiced their opinions on Twitter after abortions were made a Class A felony.

It was not long before Twitter users began sharing their abortion stories under the hashtag #YouKnowMe .

I did and I will NEVER regret it. This bill will kill more people than it saves," one user writes.

"It's never anyone else's business," says another.
