A teenage boy decided to sell his most prized possession so he could surprise his mom with a new car.

William Preston (13), from Nevada in the US, recently learnt that his mom, Krystal, struggled to support him, his two sisters and their three dogs, the Mirror reports.

Unfortunately, the mom of three didn’t have a car to transport her family around, which made things more difficult for her.

After watching a video that showed a child surprising him mom with a new car, William was inspired to do the same.

The teenager browsed through Facebook and came across a local woman who was selling her 1999 white Chevrolet Metro, the New Zealand Herald reports.

"It was really cheap so I asked her if I could trade it for my Xbox or earn it, and at first she said no. And after she thought about it, then she said yes." William said.

After several negotiations, the woman had a change of heart and allowed William to pay off the car by doing yardwork. William then rushed home to tell his mom the good news, according to ABC 8.

"She didn't believe me," the teenager said.

A stunned Krystal walked outside to find the seller parked outside.

"I lost it. I bawled. I was just like, there's no way,” Krystal said.

“And then she gave me the keys and the paperwork."

Although the car needs a few minor repairs, the mom said her new ride is perfect, reports.

"The fact that my kid did this, I'm proud. But as a mom, I'm supposed to be able to take care of my kids. I'm supposed to do this, not the other way around," Krystal said.

Soon after receiving the car, the mom took to Facebook to share the good news with her close friends and family.

“I am so proud of my son. He’s such a good kid. He may have his days but OMG. What 13-year-old kid do you know that buys his mom a car . . . William, I love you, son, and thank you,” she captioned her post.

“You have such a big heart and I love you.”

But the youngster said he didn’t do it for the publicity.

"I didn't really want that to happen. I just wanted to do it, that's all.”
