Ben Parkes was all set to pop the question to his beautiful girlfriend – but he never got the chance.

The 31-year-old from Newcastle in the UK suffered sudden cardiac arrest just days before he planned to get down on bended knee before his girlfriend Emma Machin (27), Metro UK reports.

The incident took place at a house in Stoke last week, and the father of one was pronounced dead in hospital on Thursday. It’s not clear what caused the cardiac arrest.

Emma revealed to The Stoke Sentinel Ben had been planning to propose to her.

“Ben was loving, kind, funny and handsome but he never thought of himself like that, he was a modest person.”

Ben and Emma lived together, with their two-year-old daughter Isabella and Emma’s five-year-old son from a previous relationship, Riley.

Ben, worked for energy company Cadent, was a massive fan of Stoke City football club – but he gave up his season ticket to put money into their home.

"He was an amazing father and step-father to our two children and he loved me,” a devastated Emma said.

According to The Mirror, Ben’s family and friends have requested that fans take part in a minute's applause during the 31st minute of Saturday's Premier League match in honour of Ben.

Emma said Ben would be proud of how his family and friend are handling his passing.

“Now we are going to stick together, especially for the children.”
