Make your own beauty treatments at home with these easy-to-find ingredients from your kitchen.

1.     Epsom salts and rooibos bath soak

Rooibos tea is rich in minerals and antioxidants and has soothing, anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and anti-ageing properties. Epsom salts baths help detox the body and magnesium helps relieve muscle cramps and inflammation.

  • 1-2 cups Epsom salts
  • 5 rooibos tea bags

Add the ingredients to a hot bath and soak in it for 20 minutes. Tip: This bath has a detoxifying effect so it's important to drink lots of water afterwards.

2.     Moisturising avocado,  egg, honey and olive oil hair mask

Olive oil and avocado are rich in antioxidants, vitamins and fatty acids and are great moisturisers. Eggs are an excellent source of amino acids, vitamins, minerals and, most significantly, sulphur, an important element in strengthening skin and hair.  Honey is rich in vitamins.

  • 1 avocado (use half for short hair)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 T honey
  • 2 T extra-virgin olive oil

Mix ingredients together until creamy and apply to your hair. Cover with a plastic shower cap or cling film and wrap a warm towel around your head. Leave on for 30-40 minutes. Rinse, shampoo and condition as usual.

3.     Exfoliating coffee and egg-white face and body scrub

Coffee contains antioxidants and can help improve blood circulation.

  • ¼ cup used coffee grounds
  • 1 egg white

Increase quantities for body scrub. Combine ingredients and massage gently over skin. Gently scrub for 2-3 minutes. Rinse off first with lukewarm water, then cool water. Tone and moisturise.
