Happy birthday, little fighter.

The little fighter who captured the hearts of many South Africans five years ago is seven years old.

On New Year’s Eve 2011 Pippie Kruger sustained burns to 80 percent of her body when fire-lighting gel exploded at her home in Lephalale. Since then she’s bravely endured pain and discomfort.

“Today my Poppie is seven years old,” her mom, Anicè, wrote on Facebook on Thursday. “Happy birthday, my darling child. Thank you Daddy Father for every day’s mercies and for the fact our little miracle is still with us every day and getting prettier, bigger, cuter and stronger.

“Thank you Daddy Father that your plan for her life is so much greater than we could ever understand, and that you’ll never leave us alone.

“Have a lovely day, princess Pippie.”

Initially Pippie had a slim chance of survival, but she’s making good progress, Anicè told YOU in a recent interview. “Every day there’s something new; a new word, things she does.”

Since the night she was burnt so badly Pippie has undergone 55 operations and her parents don’t know how many more the brave little girl will have to endure.

“After 55 procedures we don’t want her to have unnecessary operations just because we’re worried about her scars. One day when they’re little marks we can have them taken care of. But if Pippie says she doesn’t want to have any more operations I’d never force her to,” Anicè said.
