Anna Faris was in denial when she went into labour prematurely with her son Jack.

Born nine weeks early in August 2012, the infant spent a month in the NICU – something every new parent fears.

Going into labour at just seven months, the 38-year-old actress told Redbook magazine that she and her husband Chris Pratt were “so scared” for their baby that it still haunts them to this day.

'For hours I was like, ‘I’m just having indigestion.’'

“My water broke in the middle of the night at seven months. We rushed to the hospital, and they were able to halt active labour with magnesium,” she recalled.

While she was told by doctors she would have to spend the next four weeks on bed rest, after just a week she went into labour once more.

Not willing to admit it was happening so soon, Anna initially put her discomfort down to indigestion. Though it soon became clear it was the real deal.

“I was in denial. For hours I was like, ‘I’m just having indigestion.’ Chris and I were so scared, but then Jack came out, even though he was so tiny, he looked so good to us,” she smiled.

Weighing in at just three pounds, little Jack had a fight on his hands. As Anna noted, it was a make or break situation for the couple too and “one of those things that drives you apart or makes you closer”.

Fortunately for the pair, who have been married since July 2009, it brought them together. Indeed, Anna believes it’s made both she and Chris (35) even better parents.

“I think that being a father is very meaningful and rewarding to Chris. He's a great dad. He's a little more serious than he was before. It forces your hand. You really have to become an adult,” she explained.

After reaching his target of 4lbs 5oz (2kg), Jack was allowed to go home with his very relieved parents. He is now a thriving two-and-a-half-year-old who loves “monster trucks and Daniel Tiger and, believe it or not, he loves vegetables” his proud dad told The Ellen DeGeneres Show in December.
