This healthy dessert is the perfect treat for young and old. Serve it with fresh cream or a scoop of ice cream.

Baked apple and cinnamon treats

1 Portion

You’ll need:

  • 1 Granny Smith apple
  • a dollop of unsalted butter
  • a pinch of ground cinnamon
  • a drop of vanilla essence
  • 5–10 raisins
  • 30 ml (2 Tbsp) whipped fresh cream or 1 scoop of ice cream

Do this:

Preheat the oven to 180°C. Carefully core the apple, ensuring that the hole at the top is quite wide and leaving the base and sides intact.  Carefully remove the apple flesh (as much as you can without breaking the sides).  Roughly mash the apple flesh, butter, cinnamon, vanilla essence and raisins together. Spoon the mixture into the apple cup (cut the hole wider if necessary).  Place the apple into a muffin cup (the cup will keep the apple upright) or if making more than one, arrange them together in a bread pan. Bake for 30 minutes or until the apple is fairly soft.  Set aside to cool until cold enough for a toddler to eat without burning his mouth (the apple takes a while to cool down). Top with a small dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of ice cream before serving.
