A wild bear rampaging through a shopping mall in Russia’s far east has been shot and killed by police. No one was reported injured in the incident.

Local television channel MestoproTV released a video showing the bear breaking a window and roaming through the mall, in the city of Khabarovsk close to the border with China, before moving to a nearby playground.

The bear forces open a store window and charges down a road. The video shows a camouflaged law enforcement officer pursuing the animal before shooting it dead in the playground.

The Investigative Committee, Russia’s main criminal investigation agency, has launched an enquiry into the lawfulness of the officer’s action.

According to the television report the bear was between two and three years old – which is a teenager in bear terms.

The BBC quoted Russian state news agency Tass saying that so far this year there have six bear attacks in Russia – two of them fatal.
